Simple Self Care First Aid with a Crystal Pendulum

As ever, PLEASE ALWAYS SEEK APPROPRIATE MEDICAL ADVICE. This one’s a bit weird even by my standards. It’s not instead of getting proper treatment but can be a wonderful, side effect way to ease pain and support the body’s natural placebo effect

On Saturday, I was super careful mowing the lawn for the first time this year AND doing the ‘first cartwheels of the season’ as a friend my age and I call them (we never know if we’ll still be able to or not).

Then I leaped carelessly down a ditch to take a video of my new lamb neighbours and sprained my ankle.

What you need

A crystal pendulum or pendant on a chain long enough to get a sense of direction and move manually. I used amethyst here. Clear quartz can be great but any you’re guided towards (having set an intention) will work fine.

What to DO

Recognise that whatever pain you have is a signal. Your body’s way of getting your attention. LISTEN. You may want to get to a doctor immediately or, if you feel OK enough, you have nothing to lose by experimenting with what I totally understand looks insane.

Start by cleansing your crystal. Breathe onto it allowing the breath to release any energies you no longer need or run it under the cold tap. There are other ways too but it really doesn’t have to be complicated.

Find a comfortable position where you’ll be able to hold the pendulum directly over the painful part of the body. Be as still as possible and notice the direction and way in which it moves. Again, I’ve been doing this for 20 years and am still astonished by what feels like magic. It will move itself and show what pain looks like in terms of the pendulum.

Cleanse it again — breathe onto it or running cold water.

Take 3 healthy, pain free parts of the body and calibrate by testing the direction on each one. Again, you’ll likely be shocked at how, even without moving it consciously yourself, it definitely has a healthy direction to show you.

Cleanse it again.

Now come back to the painful area and deliberately, consciously make the pendulum move in the healthy direction (eg with Ted, swinging it clockwise).

After a few moments, pause, cleanse again and test.

Hold it still and notice what it does.

It may already be moving in the healthy direction naturally, it may be a little jagged or moving however it is moving.

If it’s not yet naturally moving in the healthy direction, repeat the deliberate penduluming.

Repeat as needed, cleanse it again and rest as necessary. You may want to journal around what message the painful part has for you. Let your body be heard.

In terms of my ankle, I felt an immediate mild improvement but struggled to get to sleep as it was still so sore. When I woke up in the night, it hurt to stand on it but by the morning, all was fine and I was cartwheeling again!

Have you tried it yet?
